WA Relief & Recovery Funds

Dedicated to supporting Western Australian communities through immediate emergency relief and long-term disaster recovery.

Empowering WA Communities in Times of Crisis

The WA Relief & Recovery Fund (WARRF) is a trusted, permanent resource for donors who want their charitable dollars to make a direct impact during Western Australian emergencies. Established by the Fremantle Foundation in early 2020, WARRF is designed to be flexible and nimble, allowing us to rapidly support the non-profits providing vital services to our communities during times of crisis.

From floods and bushfires to pandemics and environmental disasters, our mission is to provide support to charitable organisations in impacted regions through grants that aid both immediate recovery and build long-term resilience.

A Proven Model for Rapid Response

WARRF was born in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and has since expanded to meet the challenges of Western Australia’s climate and geography. By maintaining a standing fund, we ensure that we are always ready to act when the unexpected happens. Our approach is grounded in community consultation, where we prioritise speaking directly with local organisations to identify exactly what their communities needs.

Impact in Action

  • Following the 2023 Fitzroy River floods, we distributed $380,000 to community-led projects, including the Yajilarra Festival for cultural healing and the Marninwarntikura Women’s Resource Centre to sustain their therapeutic art studio. In addition, providing support vehicles to the Foundation for Indigenous Sustainable Health (FISH), a mobile kitchen for Yanunijarra Aboriginal Corporation and the reactivation of the Central Kimberley Football League.

  • WARRF provided critical small-to-medium grants to aid the recovery of communities affected by the 2021 Wooroloo bushfires.

  • WARRF provided over $500,000 in relief funding for essential support to frontline organisations navigating the social and economic shifts of the pandemic, ensuring vulnerable communities remained connected and supported.

  • In response to Cyclone Narelle (2026), the fund supported the Balu Blue Foundation in the Gascoyne region. This initiative focused on immediate wildlife rescue in the wake of the cyclone damage, and the goal of establishing of the first permanent rehabilitation centre in the region to serve as a long-term model for the North West.
