Case study – Merenda Fund

Santo and Joe Merenda smallFremantle business leaders Santo and Joe Merenda, along with their wives Joyce and Doreen, and the extended family that includes Aunt Nancy and Uncle Vince and Father Sam established the Merenda Fund as a named fund within the Fremantle Foundation in early 2012.

The Merenda family have a long and proud association with Fremantle after stepping off the boat at Fremantle Port as Italian migrants in the 1960s. With successful businesses interests growing over multiple generations the Merenda family are keen to give back to the community that they have been a part of for many years.

In the Merenda Fund’s first year support was given to establish the Circus Workshop at the Fremantle PCYC inspiring Indigenous young people with the magic of circus. Through the joy of learning new skills the Circus Workshop is a meaningful and rewarding experience providing genuine opportunities for kids in the area.

Santo is very pleased to be so active and informed with his giving. He is passionate about supporting the Fremantle community and keen to do so in the most effective way possible. Santo says giving to through the Fremantle Foundation is simple and satisfying.
